In a galaxy far far away....

Halloween is almost here and I'm almost as excited as the boys are. You see all my hard work is done and now it's time to sit back and enjoy the spooky day. This year I got the wild hair to make Grant and Heath's costumes. It all started when found a Simplicity pattern for a jedi knight. Grant has been a little nuts for Star Wars for a while now and all the store bought costumes are... let's admit it... lame. So I bought the pattern and over $70 of fabric and notions, so that I could toil over these darn costumes. I wonder if Aunt Beru even did that for Luke!?!
I managed Grant's costume pretty easily and even added some nice embellishments on the belt. (Grant hates them and asked me to take them off right after I finished adding them.) It's one of the great achievements in this procrastinator's life that I finished Grant's Halloween costume on October 2nd. Yep, you read that right, October 2nd! I then had to set about creating Heath's costume which was more of a challenge. You see the pattern only went as small as a size 6, which ended up a little large on Grant. So for my second Halloween miracle I had to cut the pattern down to a 3T size! And wonders of wonders I did it. I always knew that a degree in mechanical engineering would prepare me for the great adventures in my life.
For the record, Heath is Yoda to Grant's Luke, but Heath is not enamored with the Yoda ears that I crafted for him. Maybe he knows that I used a girl's head band as the base for the ears. Or maybe he just doesn't think they're as cool as the bike helmets and baseball caps he loves to don. Either way I find them quite comfortable. So if you see two small jedi knights and a mom wearing Yoda ears trick-or-treating in your neighborhood make sure to compliment us on the well crafted costumes!
